Rambling on
A
new day and new growth coming up on the Bamboo plant, yesterday this
was nowhere near the surface of the soil, today at 7:00 a.m. There it
was just waiting for a photo op. The new growth is about 2 ½
inches tall and I am going to track the growth rate for a few weeks.
The bean seedlings are about 10 inches tall, and the Moon Flower seedlings are doing well in the flower pot, I planted a few under my window and they are doing okay however something is chewing on the leaves which is the reason everything on my little patio is in pots and planters, the tomato plants are growing and the serene corning is filling out beautifully.
I am enjoying my morning cup of coffee and the sounds of the birds calling to each other probably letting the flock know I just put out some seeds. My friend G gave me a nice bag of premium grass seed so this morning I sprinkled a few hand fulls on the bare spots in the grass outside my fence and gave it a good watering and there is still quite a bit left in the bag so I will wait to see if the grass comes up or not and if need be I will spread some a bit more around.
I
finished reading Mark Kurlansky's book The Food of a Younger Land, I
liked it and found a few recipes to try someday.
I need to email my friend G my recipe for homemade Mayonnaise it is such a simple recipe and I think she will love the results for her salad making. I remember the days when I made mayonnaise all the time, along with freshly made yogurt, bread and pasta.
I still make the mayonnaise on occasion but I don't eat much bread or pasta so I don't bother with the from scratch though once in a while the bug will bite and I will do the whole from scratch thing.
The
recipe for the mayonnaise is the one from my trusty well worn, well
used copy of the Betty Crocker cookbook, the only cookbook I really
ever use, the one I have grabbed over the years and while I have
others, this is my favorite,
I had it in hardcover too,and lent it to
a friend and never saw it again, I but a newer edition of the
hardcover book but it is lacking, I keep my eyes on the lookout for
the 1969 edition but so far no luck, the current copy I have as you
can see is well used, the pages are yellow with brown crispy edges
but it still serves me well. The newer edition is from 1991 and many
of the recipes are gone, changed and updated and LACKING.
So silly me just sent my friend the Mayo recipes and forgot to attach the actual file. What can I say its just another Menopausal moment from your truly.
I did a little marketing this morning, and I am glad I did because I hear the rumble of thunder over head. I picked up some raspberries, cherries and strawberries, a few tomatoes and a cucumber so I can make my version of a Greek salad.
I decided I to make a pot of chili so I grabbed the ingredients for that as well and as I type the aroma of pepper, onion and ground meat is filling the air. I am making a mild chili with very little spice but with lots of dark and light red kidney beans, since having all the digestive problems I use very little onion or peppers when I cook and I miss the flavor it adds however eating and digesting less painful.
I hear the patter of rain on the window and I have visions of the grass seed floating to the surface and washing away.
